Presidential Debate

Tonight's Presidential debate is in a town hall style format in which the American public had the opportunity to post their own questions on My Space. Tom Brokaw is facilitating the debate and will use these questions from the public. What issues seem important to the American public? Do we learn anything new from the debates tonight? Evaluate the performance of each candidate. Who are they appealing to? What are their differences on the issues? Are they using negative attacks or substantial information? Who will win the "swing" voter tonight, why? Who seems more "Presidential?" Post your observations, opinions and questions.

This Debate looks like it will be good! Both the candidates look firm so far.

stickynote said...

does any one else notice that when a candidate answers a question they only stair right at the person who asked it. sort of like a slap in the face to every body else

Xtink_beauty said...

This debate so far is right on the dot. Both Obama and McCain go straight to the question with answering. Now lets see if they stay this way.

Olivia said...

From watching what has been said so far people care about the economy very much. I support Obama all the way but it seemed as if McCain had the better lead and is answering his questions more fluently. When the first question was ask Obama did a good job but when tom added on to it about who they were going to pick Obama seemed to go back into the first question and not answer tom all the way. Personally I hope Obama starts to do a better job then he has been doing.

Xtink_beauty said...

Yes i do notice that the canidate does stare at the person who asked the question but that could be out of respect too. "Stickynote"

Zach Forden said...

Wow these guys must have really prepared for this debate! Their doing great so far.

Obama just said that we need leadership from Washington to help the middle class in their home but I wish they would tell us how they are going to do that. I want to know H.OW they plan to keep us in our homes. Now, he is saying that he is going cutting more then he is spending to give us more money as a country I believe him but I still want to know what is he cutting.

Olivia said...

lets say more useful things

stickynote said...

Barack Obama has a point about JFK and going to the moon. if the american people want something they will accomplish it but they have to try and i agree we need to try harder to fix the economy.

Xtink_beauty said...

I noticed that both canidates would like tobuy the bad loans out and help people who are that wealthy stay in their homes they both do agree on a couple things together. But what can they do that they both disagree on. Obama just said that oil's #1 Medical's #2 Education's #3

Zach Forden said...

Obama says spending will have to be cut? What will that do for the economy?

Less spending will elimanate compainies going into banqrupty so no one will have to pay crazy amounts of money for these companies stupid moves. Thats what i think less spending will do.

stickynote said...

pin strip it is good that they can walk around but if they keep going off topic and stop following the format that they set then tom will not let them walk around anymore.

Anonymous said...

I really like what Obama said about 9-11. I think that the country did come together. I think that it is human nature to come together in a crises.

Zach Forden said...

That does sound fair. (In response to rawr08's comment about less spending)

stickynote said...

rawr08 less spending will slow the economy down though. right now we need to spend money so those businesses can reinvest in their business so that they can hire ore people and they will spend money and then the cycle repeats and the economy is jump started.

Zach Forden said...

How will less spending slow the economy down though?

Anonymous said...

we should focuses on what they are saying not how they walk around the room

stickynote said...

less spending will not make the economy worse. but less spending will let the economy keep falling. if we spend money we can get the economy going faster

Xtink_beauty said...

McCain said that thousands of jobs were lost last year but 300,000 more were created but what make that any better? We need to find a great plan that keeps ALL jobs.

Zach Forden said...

ok

Gentle Ben said...

i hate the way the tell you about stuff......all they do is blame stuff on the other person all they need to do is ju tell wat they will do as the president and how they will benifit our country

Gentle Ben said...

just*

stickynote said...

barack obama said that if you make under 200,000 dollars you will get a tax break. i just looked online that means that 93% of america will get tax cuts

Xtink_beauty said...

Whats wrong with a tax cut?

stickynote said...

mccain just forgot that girls name (ingrid jackson). how can we trust this man to be in office if he cant remember a name of a girl that was just said 30 seconds ago

Gentle Ben said...

could some one explain to me wat the bush administration is the talk about it but i dont know wat it is

stickynote said...

rwar there is nothing wrong with tax cuts but the problem is when some people get tax cuts an equal or more amount of people get a tax raise

stickynote said...

the bush administration is the time span that president bush is in office

Anonymous said...

less spending outside the country is a good thing. we are in dept with other country's. Spending inside the country is not really bad or good. It just circulates the money. when we give money to other country's to get gas from them or if our corporations go over their to use their workers is messes with the circulating money because they don't but things from us. We are the biggest consumers in the world! that is why we are in dept.

stickynote said...

yes but the US gov. could use some of the 104 billion dollars in fort knox to help pay some debts

Xtink_beauty said...

Thanks stickynote for explaning to me about the taxes breaks and rising them.

stickynote said...

barack obama is right the us needs universal health care. it will help us with balancing money and it will help out the whole usa and it will result in tax breaks

Anonymous said...

Obama said that McCain's plan helps the upper class, but that plan won't trickle down to the middle class.

Olivia said...

That is a very upsetting thing about the tax cuts. Yes I think that it is a good thing that there will be tax cuts but 93% of americans that need it is scary. I normally would be worried about things like how much money people get but that this is the worst sence the great depression is scary. Another thing is that it is our generation that will have to deal with all of this. Including global warming, we have some serious things to think about and it will be hard. We all need to listen to both McCain and Obama because the next pres. will start to lead us out of it but we will have to completely fix and worry about it.

Maskedrevolution said...

Personaly I think that almost all areas of government can have some money cut from it and be put toward more helpful subjects like, health care, education and new energy plans. This is a big subject for both canidates. I'm gald that a lot of the questions are greaded to these subjects

Olivia said...

I *would not* be worried

stickynote said...

puma we don't need to worry about it. both candidates have been talking about how they will not let our generation suffer from it. that they will not let the generation before us live through it and let us suffer. and bad joke about ear transplant mccain.

Gentle Ben said...

health care is a responsability? wat is he trying to get at?

Gentle Ben said...

yes i agree it should be a right..ahahah good job

Maskedrevolution said...

No matter what happeneds our generations is going to have a lot to fix. it's not going to be easy to fix what has come about

stickynote said...

niwarneb what is/who is health care a responsibility of

Olivia said...

Because 93% of Americans are middle as said before we need tax breaks then we should have money cut to more helpful things but if we don't do something and soon we could find our selves in another great depression

Xtink_beauty said...

"NIWARNED" we arent talking in a text so spell out "WHAT" not "Wat" -Thanks

stickynote said...

ok well our generation can get out of this depression. when JFK said that they were going to the moon by the end of the decade did they know how they were going to do it no they didn't they just knew they could. did our country know how to get out of the great depression? no they didn't but they knew it was possible so i am sure we can get out of this depression because we have done it before. we can do it again.

Olivia said...

I don't think that half of our generation understands what is in front of us and that is what is so scary. So far we are used to people or parents baling us out of things but now that they will all be gone and we don't really understand the responsibilty yet it is scary to think about

Gentle Ben said...

i dont under stand your question all i know that health care is a right not a responsability when we get hurt/sick/ect. they take care of us.

Anonymous said...

I thought I heard McCain say to cut taxes by doubling taxes.

paco j said...

i think that mccain is trying to make fun of obama because he just keeps making jokes and trying to make obama look bad.i think mccain is a little bit nervous since obama is talking more about the issues then he is

Olivia said...

people have done it before we havent. In class I think someone said a photo started the movement to get them out. We can not rely on a photo, we need to fix it before it happens

Xtink_beauty said...

Pine puma can you explain what you mean by a photo

paco j said...

i think that obama is right that the 10 billion dollars a month in iraq should be spent in our economy instead of over there

stickynote said...

puma it has already happened so we cant stop it before it starts but we can stop it from getting worse by making big companies reinvest in their business and then it will trickle down.

Olivia said...

A photo was taken. In the photo was a family of a mother and 2 kids living in a tent. That photo started the movement

Olivia said...

eaither way we need to stop it now. It has gone to far

stickynote said...

paco you are right the war is a waste of time now we had our chance to kill bin ladin but missed it so get out rethink a plan and go in and blow his head off but don't keep spending the money over there while we think of a plan

Anonymous said...

There was a question that sounded like it was about war, and I didn't hear anything like that in either of their answers.

stickynote said...

jay they have been talking all night about money spending cuts and the war is step number 1

stickynote said...

Gentle Ben said...

obama and mcain need to answer to all tthe people not just the people who ask the question

Olivia said...

stickynote you are right about the business but we need to do more. We need to have tax cut too. I'm sure business reinvesting is not the only way

stickynote said...

puma there are other ways it is just that this strategy has worked best for us in the past

Anonymous said...

First, Paco, I've seen Obama making fun of McCain, as well. He said he had to, unsurpringly, had to correct McCain. Second, Sticky, do you really think "blowing off Bin Laden's head" is the best way to solve this problem?

Olivia said...

oil has also worked in the past and look what happend with that. New ideas are needed

Xtink_beauty said...

OK i just had a power outage may someone fill me in what happened in the last 10 minutes? PLEASE

Anonymous said...

McCain said that he "knows" how to fix the economy. How does he know this plan is foolproof, which it probably isn't?

paco j said...

i think that it is not right to be having a war and then imidiatly call to bomb another place, this is what i think from what obama said about mccain being the first one to want to bomb another place

stickynote said...

jay that was the US fu**in plan in the first place Delta fore found bin ladin and ordered an air strike then on bush's they left and went back 6 months later to do a body check and couldn't find his body

Olivia said...

don't use the work fu**ing here keep it clean

stickynote said...

its blanked out for a reason puma

Xtink_beauty said...

Olivia said...

its blanked out?

Anonymous said...

I just personnally think that killing Bin Laden is the best option. It could've been a LAST RESORT when this war was started, but I guess we can't say that anymore, but I still don't think it's the only option. And Sticky, what would you say if most of those bodies that weren't Bin Laden's were innocent people?

Xtink_beauty said...

GET ON TOPIC DONT WORRY ABOUT SOMETHING THATS BLANKED OUT!!!!!!!!

Olivia said...

niwarneb: why did you need to say that? it is very unneeded and up setting that you cant talk about this with out goofing off.. very sad

stickynote said...

they have a video of bin ladin and about 400 a-quida members walking into cave about 3 minutes before the air strike was called there is a story about it on 60 minutes

paco j said...

i think that bin laden was first priority and if bush and mccain agreed to do it later then why is mccain so interested in war when he doesnt go for the important stuff

Olivia said...

rawr08 im wondering where my post went not trying to get off topic

Anonymous said...

I mean I'm not saying you thought that was a ood thing, Sticky, but I'm just saying that as a general question for everyone.

Gentle Ben said...

sorry i wass in the bathroom and my sister did that and i apologize for that and it was very inapropriate

stickynote said...

jay i agree that it is not a good thing to blow people up but Bin Ladin needs to get captured and this terrorist era needs to come to an end and taking bin ladin out is the first step. like the picture in the great depression.

orange cow said...

McCain said that we must stop sending $700 billion to countries that don't like us very much. But perhaps they don't like us because we won't help them out. I think if we send money to countries that are in need, we will get help in return and that is important. I believe that making friends with countries is better than starting wars with then.

Obama said that energy is a large priority and needs to be delt with today. I agree because almost $4 a gallon for gas is rediculus. This issue needs to be taken care of soon. That is why it is important that we start using alternative fuels.

Anonymous said...

That's not what I believe, Sticky.

Xtink_beauty said...

PINE PUMA sorry got a little angry about that it was just off topic and wasnt that big of a worry on the blog that comment from STICKNOTE will most likly be brought up by Kim tomorrow and we dont need to worry about that anymore so i apoligize for my out burst.

Gentle Ben said...

.

Olivia said...

the question being talked about right now was asked in class. I don't think we should help Israel

paco j said...

i think it is good that obama would give the country that is doing something wrong a warning and a chance to get better before it gets worse

stickynote said...

then jay what do you believe is the first step to stopping this terrorist era and how do you think we can get it done

Gentle Ben said...

my stuff didnt show up...weired hmm....what dont you know and how will you learn it? good question but it doesnt seem like obama is answering the question

paco j said...

mccain is not answering the question either, he keeps talking about war

Olivia said...

how dose mcCain not know what the unexpicted will be? I don't get that I don't know how he can learn that eaither?

Anonymous said...

I would show that I believe in peace and I would rather ask to talk. I know it might be late at this point. I'm willing to get that message through. I hate how it feels like nothing can be solved with word. Even things simple as sibling rivalries.

stickynote said...

puma without isreal's help then they could switch over to a bad side. and they have the second strongest army in the world only to the U.S.A.

Gentle Ben said...

g'night every one

Anonymous said...

Looks like the debate's over.

Olivia said...

there is not bad side. There is enimes but no bad side its not starwars. We dont need another war to deal with and if they have the second best army in the world they wont need us. I am agents war

Anonymous said...

Sticky, at this point, I think lot's of nations are on our bad side.

Xtink_beauty said...

Alot will be brought up in class tomorrow i can tell you that. Later

stickynote said...

puma they have the 2nd best army in the world but when army 20 and 10 and 7 and 5 gain up on them who do you think will win. Israel doesn't have many big allies. we do that is why they need us. and we end up picking up nobel prize winners from them too which is what the US wants smart brilliant thinker s to help us in our time of need

SQUIRT said...

one of the things that I heard was mcCain is going to give us a $5,000 tax brake and obama is going to give us the same health care that they do but were do we pay for that? throw the taxes. so if we get a $5,000 tax brake you cane still have a better health care and still have money to live your life.

Olivia said...

i'm talking about us helping them not them helping us. and if we dont get into wars we dont need allies

SQUIRT said...

what do you mean if we do not get in to war we do not need alys?

stickynote said...

allies are good for things other than war

Olivia said...

yes but I was talking about war. nothing else but war. no war no help needed for support for war. do you follow?

SQUIRT said...

well yes I agry but what happes when we need help in a war if some one deklars war on us and they have more power and control a bigger army and we need help what should we do not ask our friends for help or what just let them walk over us?

stickynote said...

yes but there will never be a day where there is not a war going on somewhere in the world. it has never happened. people will always have hate for each other and that hate will turn into fighting most of the time. so allies are need because eventually the hate builds up and woops WW1 and WW2 and if it continues WW3 but al-quida doesnt have allies so there will not be a WW3 for a while

Anonymous said...

Puma, that sounds, to me, like you're saying we just shouldn't have any allies, and therefore, not having any friends in the world. What about all the countries that we can seriously help with?

Olivia said...

well then yes we should have help. But we could play the what if game all night and didnt you say we have the best army in the world? so if we do would there be a problem if we do have the best?

stickynote said...

jay puma is just talking about just war. he sees that allies are good but he thinks we don't need them for war

SQUIRT said...

yes but like you say there will allways be hate inbetween one another so I am skeptical of if there will be world peas.

Olivia said...

sure have as many friends as you want just no war. There is alway a reason to fight but there is always a reason not to

Anonymous said...

Puma, we may not always have the strongest army. Look at the Romans, British, etc.

stickynote said...

puma if russia and china and japan all attack us at the same time we are then out matched, out skilled, and out nuecleur weaponed.

Olivia said...

dose russa, japan and china have a reason to attack? no so dont worry

Anonymous said...

If nuclear weapons become a reality that is actually used, we're all kind of screwed.

stickynote said...

acually yes they do russia is mad at us from making them stop invading jordan and japan never fully got over the big and little H bombs and china is allies with both of them and they are nuetral with us. so if they get a reason to attack they will

SQUIRT said...

ok I see what you are talking about but we do not just us them for war all of the time and I agry we should not just us them for war if we get that way but we are not like that now

Anonymous said...

Who says they WON'T have a reason?

Olivia said...

do they have reason to attack? yes or no? would they attack other places before us? Why would thy need to attack? all question are them of making a choice. They are not going to stack us

stickynote said...

they are not going to now because of our allies hint why we need them end of dissuscion see ypu in class tomorrow in class. peace yal

SQUIRT said...

well who can you think of hates us north carya and other places think of what you are asking

Anonymous said...

Even if they don't have a reason to attack, as long as they have nuclear weapons, they'll be ready if they DO have a reason.

Olivia said...

then we wont give them one. Its not like we have the most oil so thats not a reason. well im going now

Anonymous said...

I think I'm out. Bu bye.

SQUIRT said...

omg

SQUIRT said...

see you all tomarow

stickynote said...

answering your questions at the end they will not always have a reason for attacking us. they didn't have a reason or from our point they didn't have a reason for 9/11 yet if you looked at it from their point of view they are heros for teaching us a lesson in their words. countries attack countries for no reason. the US has done it before too but has not admitted it. the US makes up a reason after we have attacked and says that it is the real reason why we attacked them. the US will try to keep the real reason undercover and truth be told the real reason most of the time is they were making us mad. will we ever admit it? NO we will not ever admit it. it is just the way the world is and things through the whole world are hard to change.

Anonymous said...

I noticed that both of them were going at each other like CRAZY, each time one or the other made a re-mark towards the other candidate he gave him a devious smile. Ha, but overall the debate was good. I liked Obama's views on certain things compared to McCanes.

Polesin said...

What about the smaller details in the debate? Like what does Obama and McCain plan to do to start helping with the eonomy? Or with taxes? Where do the want to start? Will they just throw tax cuts in your faces or will they take graddual steps? What about health care? How does it need to be fixed? I know it has not always been successful, but what do they offer to help? Will there be an improfection in the cause and effect that will hurt our nation to an extream? What where some of the less interesting topics that were talked about? Although it may seem off topic, their body language can tell a lot about them. Look at their eyes when they say something. Which way do they look? Watch their lips, if they twitch, part to speak then hold back? Their hands say most of what they are thinking. Are they figgiting? Tapping? Messing with their suit buttons? Do they scratch any thing before, while or after the speak? Listen to their voice pattern, does it waver, sturdy, any studdering? They all tell us if they are lying, unsure, firm, stubborn, sracastic, ect. We do need our allies puma. Even if you choose to ignore the face that war happens, some times for rediculous reasons, does not mean we should not be prepared. If we do not prepare for the unexpected it is going to hurt our finances more than predicted. We need to be ready for if or when Russia, China, or Japan do attack. Even if you think it is unlikly, would you rather our world population plumit like a bad stock in the market because we were ignorent, and ignored the fact that wars (WW2) have been started for bias, or for lack of a better term, stupid reasons. Hitler wanted a perfect world. To him that ment no Jewish people. Only blue eyed, blonds, and look at him brown hair, brown eyes, brown clothes. People do not need a reason to attack, they just need power and athority. We cannot wait around for wars and enemies to find a reason to attack before we use our heads and find stratagies, balences in finaces, treaties, and plans.
Polesin.

Olivia said...

I am more thinking about the fact that we don't have wars between our states and that have border lines. Look at the world it is all part of the same land. The only thing that makes the land different is the people that put borders between us and them. If you cross the border line from Colorado to Nebraska you see no different in the land. Now cross the border line from the U.S. to Mexico. You will see no difference in land. We don't have allies between N.Y. and Utah. I think that people need to re-think the wars and put it into proportion. I hope you understand where I am coming from and that it is not only about having allies its also about that we separate and isolate ourselves from the rest of the world.
